On this week’s episode of TheSquare Podcast, we have a curious conversation with Brooklyn-born, Staten Island raised, and now Dallas-based artist, JM Rizzi, who specializes in large-scale murals, public sculpture installations, and mixed media canvases. As a gestural expressionist, Rizzi’s ever-growing conceptual practice explores the multitudinous angles to abstraction.
Rizzi’s greatest focus lies in synthesizing all that he observes and all that inspires him. His hands passively conduct ideas, histories, subcultures, and emotions. Regardless of scale, his work possesses an undeniable ability for placemaking. Bold, playful, and incredibly colorful, Rizzi likens his work’s hues to musical notes—bright hues are horn pops, muted tones form bass lines. Tune in to hear Rizzi discuss his process and greatest milestones—from comic books and graffiti to murals at Rockefeller Center and in Sweden and China. Let’s get curious!
