Data centers have found their way into common vocabularies—cementing their place in the market as a critical part of business infrastructure and a critical part of our daily lives. In this episode of TheSquare, Jim Cober, Principal in Corgan’s data center practice, joins Brandon Carmichael to discuss the future of data centers and the impact the evolution of technologies will have on them. Data centers that were traditionally located in rural or remote areas have started to move closer to people and social cores— promoting a new approach to architecture that reimagines the relationship between people and their communities, and this critical infrastructure. Formerly less concerned about aesthetics than functionality, the modern data center will need to respond to the demands for a more contextual, human-centric design that adds value to the surrounding community. Listen in as Jim dives into the advantages of “the data center next door” and how designers are re-evaluating the human relationship with data centers— providing a higher perception of connection and security without an undue burden on the people that live, work, learn, and play next door.
