We can do nearly anything virtually now—go to the doctor, shop at the grocery store, catch up with friends over a glass of wine, and even take a cooking class in a foreign country. But, it’s the way places make us feel that attract us to physical spaces—their power to improve our mental health, encourage human connection, refresh our wellness, expand our experiences, and enrich our life. People were not designed for a life behind the screen, yet as more and more of our life moves to virtual or hybrid settings, the challenge remains for physical places to care for the core things that make us human—face to face interactions, movement, access to nature, and more.
In the same ways that LEED measures the impact of the physical building on the surrounding environment, WELL provides a scientifically-based measurement to evaluate the impact of a building on the people and culture inside. On this week’s episode of TheSquare, Caroline Compton, Interior Design Project Manager and Senior Associate at Corgan, who is also a Fitwel Ambassador and WELL Accredited Professional shares how WELL principles may help those at the helm of recruiting and retaining talent, promoting a sense of belonging, and ultimately, building corporate culture to tap into the power and possibilities of human-centric design.

Over the past 35 years, Matt has managed, coordinated, and led design teams on a wide variety of complex projects— from Charles Schwab and 7-Eleven’s Headquarters to CIGNA Point Regional Headquarters and Traxxas Campus Development. Known for being a hands-on manager and a talented designer who understands all aspects of putting a high-quality building together, Matt is an integral part of the Corgan family.

Corgan was thrilled to welcome a virtual internship class this summer, providing 25 students from across the US and other countries an experience in learning what it's like to be a Corganite. In this week's episode of TheSquare Podcast, we sit down with two interns, Taisiia Kolisnyk and Allison Hietpas, to discuss their internship experiences with Corgan.
In addition to gaining hands-on experience through dedicated time with our architects and designers, the interns participated in a sprint exploring different perspectives on design by examining how emerging technologies and shifts in human behavior can create unique opportunities for architecture. Listen in as Tai and Allison share their personal experiences and accomplishments from this internship, gaining knowledge and understanding of computational design, portfolios, photoshop, Hugo, Revit, and so much more!

Is the future of agriculture micro-farms? When the pandemic hit, the retail food landscape changed dramatically. With “big food” supplying most restaurants and grocery stores, they faced numerous challenges— from labor shortages, redistribution challenges to distribution sites with long travel times— causing many individuals to turn to smaller, local farms.
In this week’s episode of TheSquare Podcast, we have a curious conversation with Jeff Bednar, Owner and founder of Profound Microfarms and Profound Foods. The Profound family business started as a 2.6-acre farm in Texas growing leafy greens, edible flowers, culinary herbs, and microgreens in 17,000 sqft of hydroponic greenhouses. Jeff then founded Profound Foods, a distribution hub that he created to connect farmers and chefs. As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, Jeff created Profound Kitchen to create value-added goods out of end-of-season produce and products that enhance the at-home cooking experience. That is precisely what design-build is all about— collaboration and teamwork that encourages design excellence.
